Your Right To Pick The Shop, And How To Pick Well
01
What the law allows and what steering sounds like
Under California law the person who owns the vehicle chooses where it is repaired. A carrier is permitted to recommend a facility and is not permitted to require one. That is the whole rule, and it is worth knowing precisely because the pressure to use a network shop is rarely stated as a requirement.
It usually sounds like helpfulness. The repair will be faster at a network shop. The claim will be simpler. We cannot vouch for the work at an outside facility. There may be a delay if you go elsewhere. None of those are prohibitions and all of them push in the same direction.
There is nothing wrong with a network shop that can do the work. Direct repair programs exist because they genuinely streamline high volume automotive claims. The question is whether the recommended facility can take a forty two foot coach in the door, and on recreational vehicles that answer is frequently no.
02
The questions that actually separate facilities
Start with the building, because skill is irrelevant if the vehicle does not fit. What is the door height and the usable bay length? How long is the paint booth? What is the frame rack rated for? A shop that answers those instantly has been asked before. A shop that has to go check has probably not had a coach in it.
Then ask about construction. How do you find delamination? What do you do when a molded cap has cracks from two impact points? How do you decide between blending and refinishing a full side on a body with no character line? The answers do not have to match ours. They do have to demonstrate that the person has opened one of these before.
Then ask about process. Who writes the supplement? Do photographs get attached to each line? Will I receive copies of the submissions and the carrier responses? Do you proceed on a verbal approval from an adjuster? That last one has a right answer and it is no.
03
Why a specialist is not always the right answer
If the damage is confined to a tow vehicle, a van chassis with no conversion behind it, or a small utility trailer, a good general collision shop closer to home is a completely sensible choice and will probably be faster. There is no reason to tow a pickup nineteen miles for a bumper.
If the issue is a factory defect still covered by the manufacturer, the dealership service network is the right path and we will say so. We do not perform recall work and we do not pretend the answer to every question is our shop.
Where a specialist matters is anything involving bonded sandwich construction, molded fiberglass, structural framing, a refinish surface longer than a car, or a claim where the carrier's estimating system has no operation that matches the vehicle. That is most collision damage on a coach or a towable, which is why this shop exists.

What OCRV Center is and is not
OCRV Center is an independent repair facility at 23281 La Palma Ave in Yorba Linda, roughly nineteen miles from Lake Forest by the 241 to the 91 or the 5 to the 55. We bill and correspond with a long list of carriers on customer claims. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, certified by or authorized by any of them, and no company listed on this site has any arrangement with this shop.
Every repair happens at the Yorba Linda facility. There is no mobile or roadside option, and vehicles that cannot drive arrive on a transport truck, which is completely normal for major damage. We also do not perform engine or transmission rebuild work, drivetrain repair, DOT inspections or emission testing, and we will tell you that on the phone rather than after you have towed something here.
What we do is collision, structural, paint, fiberglass, interior and systems repair on recreational and commercial vehicles, and the insurance documentation that goes with it. Being clear about the edges of that is part of being worth choosing.
05
Handling the conversation with your carrier
State your choice as a decision rather than a request. Tell the adjuster which facility the vehicle is going to and ask them to note it on the file. You do not need permission and you do not need to justify it, though pointing out that the shop can physically accept the vehicle usually ends the conversation quickly.
Ask them to send the estimate and any subsequent correspondence to both you and the shop. Keep your own record of claim number, adjuster name and the date of every contact. If a carrier representative suggests the claim will be delayed or the work unvouched for at an outside facility, ask for that in writing, which reliably changes the tone.
Then let the technical conversation move to the shop. Coverage, deductible and loss of use questions stay with you because they are about your policy. Scope, operations, labor times, parts and structural findings belong with the people who have the panel open, and that division makes both conversations shorter.

Getting the vehicle here from Lake Forest
Most Lake Forest owners run the 241 north to the 91, or take the 5 to the 55 and across, and plan on thirty minutes or so outside peak traffic. The facility covers 35,000 sq ft with bays and a paint booth sized for coaches up to roughly forty five feet, which is the constraint that quietly disqualifies most collision shops in south Orange County.
A substantial share of the structural work at OCRV Center arrives by transport rather than under its own power. Arranging that is worth starting on day one rather than day ten, because storage charges accumulate quickly on a vehicle this size and carriers routinely dispute days that were not authorized in advance.
Collision estimates are written at the shop and insurance walk-ins are welcome during business hours. Call ahead at (949) 799-3387 if the vehicle is over forty feet so we can tell you which gate to use, which sounds like a small thing and saves a genuinely awkward twenty minutes on arrival.
