The most common misunderstanding we correct is the idea that an electric vehicle repair is fundamentally exotic. Above the floor line a great deal of it is ordinary. A dented panel is metal finished or replaced, a bumper cover is refinished, a door is aligned. The difference is concentrated in three places: anything that touches the pack or its enclosure, anything that joins mixed materials, and anything that disturbs a sensor. Get those three right and the rest of the job proceeds normally. Get any of them wrong and the vehicle leaves with a problem that will surface later and be expensive.
Sensor recalibration is not optional on these platforms and it is the step most likely to be skipped by a shop treating an electric van as a normal van. Cameras behind the windshield, radar in the fascia, ultrasonic sensors around the perimeter and blind spot hardware in the rear corners are all positioned in the exact places that get damaged. Removing a bumper cover, replacing glass or repairing a quarter panel disturbs at least one of them. We scan before and after, perform the specified calibration, and put the result on the invoice so a fleet has a record that the driver assistance systems were verified.

On most electric platforms the battery enclosure is not a box bolted underneath, it is a structural element that contributes to the stiffness of the whole vehicle. That has two consequences for repair. The first is safety: heat, sparks and vibration near the enclosure are controlled operations that begin with a documented isolation and a verified absence of voltage. The second is structural: floor and rocker damage on these vehicles cannot be assessed by eye, because the enclosure may have absorbed load without deforming visibly. We follow the manufacturer position on what may be repaired, what must be replaced and what requires the pack to be removed, and where a procedure calls for pack removal we say so rather than working around it.
Aluminum and mixed material bodies that need a separated repair area
Electric platforms use aluminum, composite, high strength steel and structural adhesive in combinations that vary panel by panel. Aluminum dust in a steel repair environment is a contamination problem in both directions, and joining methods differ completely: some joints are riveted and bonded rather than welded, and a technician who welds a joint that was designed to be bonded has created a weak point that will not be visible again until it fails. Working these vehicles properly requires separated tooling, a dedicated aluminum area, and the discipline to look up the joining method for each specific seam rather than assuming from what it looks like.
Charge port and high voltage connector damage after a light rear impact
Charge ports sit in body positions chosen for the convenience of a driver at a charger, which frequently means a rear quarter or a front fender exactly where low speed contact lands. A cracked port door reads as trivial and it is not. The port housing carries a high voltage connector, a lock actuator, a communication line and often a temperature sensor, and a housing that has moved on its mounting can misalign the connector enough to cause charging faults, intermittent handshakes or overheating at the pins. We inspect the port assembly and its mounting rather than replacing the visible door, test a full charging handshake after repair, and document what was found so a fleet knows which unit had it.

Electric platforms run a substantial coolant circuit for the pack, the drive units and the cabin, and a lot of that plumbing lives in the front structure behind the bumper along with condensers, chillers and their sensors. A parking impact that would be a bumper cover on a conventional van can crack a line, distort a cooler or damage a sensor on one of these. The vehicle may drive normally and then derate on a hot day or refuse a fast charge. Our practice on any frontal damage is to remove the fascia and inspect the thermal hardware, pressure check the circuit where anything shows contact, and document the result on the estimate before a supplement becomes a surprise.
