Transit Buses Repair For Lake Forest Owners
Transit buses are built to last a very long time in punishing service, and that longevity means the repair conversation is usually about restoring a fifteen year old vehicle to a serviceable state rather than making a new one perfect. Structure is stainless or corrosion resistant by design, panels are replaceable, and the drivetrain and body are maintained on separate schedules. Body repair on one of these is a real trade rather than a cosmetic exercise.
Battery electric transit buses are increasingly common in Southern California fleets, and they change the underbody and roof procedure without changing the body sides much. High voltage packs mounted on the roof or under the floor require a documented isolation procedure before any welding, cutting or underbody access. Panel, cap and refinish work proceeds normally. We handle the high voltage side as a defined process with verification, not as an improvisation.

What goes wrong on these
Curb strikes at stops that accumulate into structural skirt damage
A transit bus pulls tight to a curb at every stop, hundreds of times a day, and the lower skirt panels and wheel arch areas take contact constantly. Individually each strike is minor. Over a service year the skirt mounting fatigues, panels crack at their fastening and the structure behind them begins to show. Repairing the panel without addressing the mounting brackets means the same panel loosens again in months. We rebuild the mounting and the panel together and, where the pattern justifies it, improve the attachment so the next service year is easier.
Bonded glazing that changes how a body side is repaired
Modern transit buses bond their passenger glazing directly to the body structure, which means the glass is contributing stiffness rather than sitting in a rubber gasket. A body side repair adjacent to bonded glazing has to account for that: cutting out glass to access structure removes stiffness during the repair, and the rebond has to be done to specification with the correct primer and cure time. Treating bonded glazing like a gasket set window produces a bus with a leaking window and a body side that flexes more than it should.
Ramp systems that stop deploying because the body opening moved
A wheelchair ramp folds into a well in the floor at the doorway and deploys through a defined path. Body damage near the door, even damage that appears cosmetic, can shift the well or the doorway enough that the ramp binds during travel. Because the ramp is a compliance critical system, a bus with a ramp that hesitates is out of service. Restoring the doorway and well geometry, then verifying the full deployment cycle under load, is the repair. Adjusting the ramp to work around a distorted opening is not.
Livery refinish across a body with almost no styling to hide a transition
Transit buses carry agency livery over enormous flat panels, frequently with multi-color schemes, sponsor graphics and required markings. There is no body line to end a blend at, and the panels are large enough that any inconsistency shows from across a street. We plan blends to reach a panel joint, a window aperture or a skirt break, and we reproduce livery graphics and required marking to the agency specification rather than approximating them. Consistency across a fleet matters more than a perfect match on one bus.
