Food Trucks Repair For Lake Forest Owners
Food trucks arrive at the shop with a specific anxiety attached, which is that a repair will disturb something the health department signed off on. That concern is correct and it shapes how we plan the work. Coved flooring, wall surface material, hand sink placement, hood clearance and vent openings were all reviewed as a package. When a body repair reaches any of those, we restore the detail to the standard the build was approved against rather than to whatever is fastest. Operators generally know which elements were the fussy ones during plan check, and asking that question at intake saves an argument later.
The structural picture on these vehicles is unusual because a kitchen is heavy and the weight is distributed badly. Ranges, fryers, refrigeration, water tanks and a propane bank concentrate mass along one wall or across the rear. Add a full water load and a day of product and many of these trucks are working at the top of what the chassis was rated for. That shows up as sagging rear suspension, cracked body mounts, fatigue at the equipment attachment points and body seams that open on a rough approach. When we see the same crack return, weight distribution is the first conversation, not the last.
Refinish work on a food truck is a branding job as much as a paint job. The graphics are the sign, and on many trucks they are a full printed wrap with photographic elements rather than a paint scheme. Repairing a panel under a printed wrap means matching artwork, not matching color, which requires either the original print files or a reproduction from photographs at the correct scale. We ask for the artwork at intake. When it does not exist, we photograph and reproduce, and we set expectations honestly about how close a reproduced panel will read next to sun-faded original vinyl.

Serving window openings that were cut through a structural body side
The single most consequential modification on a food truck is the hole cut for the service window. On most builds that opening is large, roughly rectangular, and placed in the middle of a panel that was carrying stiffness through its own geometry. Add a second opening for a pass-through and the body side has lost most of what held it flat. What we see afterward is oil canning across the panel, fatigue cracks radiating from the window corners where the fabricator cut a sharp corner instead of a generous radius, and a window that binds because the opening is no longer square. Repairing the crack alone gets a truck back for the same problem. Reinforcing the opening perimeter, restoring corner radii, and tying the frame into a body rib is what stops it.
Exhaust hood mounting that transfers vibration into the roof skin
A commercial hood and its fan assembly are heavy, they sit on the roof, and they vibrate whenever the fan runs. The roof panel underneath was designed to carry its own weight and rain. When the hood curb is fastened straight to the skin without a spreader plate, every hour of service works those fasteners against thin metal. The result is elongated holes, a hood that has shifted a fraction of an inch, and a seal that no longer sits on a flat surface. Water enters and runs down the inside of the wall, which on a food vehicle means a health inspection problem as well as a corrosion problem. We rebuild the curb, spread the load into the roof structure, and re-bed the seal on a clean prepared surface.
Kitchen floors that fail where the coving was never actually sealed
County plan review requires a coved junction between the kitchen floor and the wall so the surface can be cleaned without water reaching the structure. Plenty of builds satisfy the visual requirement without satisfying the physical one, using a separate cove strip caulked at both edges rather than a continuous flashed transition. Caulk in a kitchen that is washed daily and driven over speed bumps has a short life. Once it opens, wash water goes under the floor covering and sits on the subfloor. By the time an operator notices a soft spot, the plywood underneath has usually been wet for a year. We rebuild the subfloor, then reinstall the covering as a continuous coved surface rather than a floor plus a strip.
Propane compartment structure that corrodes from the inside out
The propane locker on a food truck is a sealed compartment vented to the outside, mounted low, and exposed to everything the road throws at it. It is also the compartment nobody opens except to swap cylinders. Water enters through the vents, sits on the floor of the locker, and works on the mounting brackets, the retention hardware and the compartment floor itself. The failure shows up as a bracket that has lost section, a compartment floor with perforation, or a door that no longer latches because its frame has moved. Because of what the compartment contains, this is not a repair to improvise. We rebuild the structure in appropriate material, restore the venting geometry and refinish the interior so the next several years happen more slowly.
