Refrigerated Reefer Trucks Repair For Lake Forest Owners
Refrigerated body repair is the most technically demanding body work in the commercial category, because the panel is a system rather than a surface. Skin, adhesive, foam, liner and vapor seal all have to be restored, and the measure of success is thermal performance rather than appearance. A repair that looks flawless and leaks vapor into the core has failed. We approach these jobs from the inside out and we document each layer as it goes back.
The operational context matters. A reefer truck carrying food is subject to temperature documentation requirements from the customers it serves, and a body that cannot hold temperature is a compliance problem as well as an efficiency one. Operators need to know not just that the panel is repaired but that the repair will hold under a full pull-down. We are direct about what a given repair will and will not restore, particularly on older bodies where the foam has already absorbed moisture across a wide area.
Damage on these trucks concentrates at two places: the rear opening, where everything enters and leaves, and the front bulkhead, where the refrigeration unit is mounted and where the road throws debris. Both are worth a periodic inspection. Rear corner posts, door frames and gaskets are inexpensive to correct early. A crushed corner post that has been racking the door for a year has usually damaged the door, the gasket and the liner behind it too.

Adhesives and foam need cure time and there is no compressing it, so we are honest about the schedule and we sequence the work so the truck is not sitting waiting on a step that could have been done in parallel.
What goes wrong on these
Skin damage that is never only skin damage on an insulated body
On a reefer body the exterior skin, the foam core and the interior liner are bonded into a single panel, and the foam is the structure as much as the insulation. A dent that would be a skin repair on a dry freight body has crushed foam behind it, and crushed foam does not recover. Repairing the skin over it leaves a permanent thermal weak point that will show up on a temperature map and as condensation. The correct repair cuts out the affected panel section, removes the crushed core, replaces it and rebonds both skins.
Vapor barrier breaches that soak insulation over months
A refrigerated body works by keeping moisture out of the insulation. Every fastener, every seam and every repair is a potential breach, and once water vapor gets into the foam it condenses and stays. The panel gains weight, the insulation value drops, and eventually the operator notices the unit running longer to hold temperature. The damage is invisible from both sides. When we repair a reefer body we treat vapor sealing as the primary objective and the cosmetic finish as secondary, which is the opposite of most body work.
Rear door gaskets that are the single largest efficiency loss on the vehicle
A reefer rear door has multiple gasket stages that must compress evenly around a large opening, and that opening is exactly where dock contact, forklift strikes and daily cycling do their damage. A door frame that is slightly out of square leaves a gap that frost will mark within an hour of operation. Operators frequently replace gaskets repeatedly without addressing the frame. We check frame square and door alignment first, correct it, and then fit gaskets to a true opening.
Floors and drains that take chemical attack the rest of the body does not
Reefer floors deal with meltwater, product spills, cleaning chemicals and pressure washing, all of which attack the floor, the drain channels and the seam where the floor meets the wall liner. Corrosion at that seam opens a path into the insulation from the worst possible direction. When we repair a reefer floor we rebuild the wall to floor transition with a proper cove and sealed detail rather than a bead of sealant, because that joint has to survive being washed regularly.
